About Us
Hi, I’m Mariah. I started making tallow skincare the same way I cook: with local ingredients, a sense of practicality, and a whole lot of care.
As a line cook & farmer, and someone who believes in the power of regional food systems, I created Notini Naturals to bring that same ethos to skincare. Skincare, like food, should be local, honest, and good.
I started making tallow salve in 2021 when my partner began experiencing eczema outbreaks during a particularly stressful time in our lives. Over-the-counter medications and locally made herbal products didn’t help. With a background in farming and cooking—and a comfort level rendering suet—I decided to make something myself.
I’d spent years in kitchens and on small farms, worked in an apothecary, and studied folk herbalism. That first batch of salve helped more than anything else we tried. The formula has evolved slightly since then, but it’s still the one we rely on every winter.
Now that I’m back in Boston working in restaurant kitchens, it’s also the salve I reach for after a burn on the line. It’s what I gift friends when they have babies, and what I gave my mom when she was going through chemotherapy and dealing with painful radiation burns.
I never set out to turn this into a business, but the orders started coming, so I kept making. It feels especially meaningful to now support the grass-fed beef farmers I used to work for, and herbalists growing medicine in their backyards.
I hope this salve brings relief to you and your people—whether you slather it on after a hot shower or tuck it into a gift basket for a postpartum friend. May it bring comfort, care, and a little bit of vitality wherever it lands. Thanks for being here.
